Serper.dev

The cheapest Google Search API for builders

Overview

Serper is a developer-first SERP API that returns Google search results — web, news, images, maps, places, shopping, scholar — as structured JSON in one to two seconds. It is priced per query on prepaid credit packs, starting with 2,500 free queries, and is built to be dropped into a Clay table, an n8n flow, or your own scraping pipeline. There is no dashboard for running campaigns and no built-in enrichment; you call an endpoint and parse the response.

Who it's for

  • Clay and n8n builders wiring SERP data into enrichment columns
  • GTM engineers scripting lead-scraping and account research at scale
  • Developers who need cheap, fast Google results as JSON
  • Teams already comfortable owning their own data pipeline

Not for

Non-technical SDRs who want a point-and-click UI · Buyers expecting contact data or email enrichment out of the box · Teams that want a managed workflow rather than a raw API · Anyone who can't write or maintain the calling code

Capabilities

  • Structured JSON for Google web, news, images, maps, places, shopping, scholar, patents, and autocomplete
  • Sub-2-second response times on most queries
  • Per-query credit pricing with volume discounts down to ~$0.30/1K
  • Locale and geo targeting via country, language, and location params
  • Batch querying for high-volume scraping jobs
  • Simple REST endpoint that slots into Clay, n8n, Make, or custom scripts

The honest take

Where it breaks

It is a raw search API with no UI, no enrichment, and no orchestration — you build and maintain the entire workflow around it. If your team can't write code or live in Clay/n8n, the cheap per-query price won't matter because nobody can wire it up.

The verdict

For GTM engineers and Clay/n8n builders who want cheap, fast Google results as JSON, Serper is one of the best-value SERP APIs available. It is a component, not a product — treat it as the data layer underneath your own scraping and enrichment pipeline, not as a standalone prospecting tool.

FAQ

Is Serper a tool or an API?

It is a raw API. You get an endpoint and JSON responses — there is no app UI for building lists or running outreach. You bring the workflow.

How does pricing work?

Credit-based. You buy prepaid query packs (e.g. $50 for 50K queries) and each search spends credits. Larger packs lower the per-query cost; credits are valid for six months.

Is there a free tier?

Yes — 2,500 free queries with no credit card, intended to evaluate the API before buying a pack.

Can I use it inside Clay or n8n?

Yes. It is a common pattern: call Serper from an HTTP/API column or node to pull SERP results, then enrich or filter downstream. You still build the logic yourself.

Does Serper return contact or company data?

No. It returns Google search results only. Turning a SERP into a lead — emails, firmographics, scoring — is on you and your other tools.
